Simon Bednar is a senior executive with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. With expertise in sales, business consulting, project management, IT operations and executive recruitment, he has become the leader of one of Australia’s largest aggregators and a passionate mortgage broker advocate. Prior to his current role, Bednar worked as the general manager at Finsure for seven years, where he demonstrated his ability and passion for leading and inspiring his team. His leadership contributed significantly to business growth and played a key role in helping brokers succeed. His approach has solidified his reputation as a finance industry thought leader, consistently driving innovation and strategic vision within the mortgage broking space.

Before joining Finsure, Bednar spent eight years as COO at one of Australia’s leading software providers in financial services, where he was responsible for driving vertical products into the mortgage industry. His international leadership experience grew as he managed the company’s expansion into new global markets. Additionally, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the business, further enhancing his expertise in large-scale operations and strategic growth.
Bednar didn’t take a typical route into the financial services industry, though. In 1999, he graduated from the University of Melbourne with a degree in engineering.
“While there doesn’t seem to be an obvious link between being an engineer and CEO of a financial group, I would say my insatiable curiosity to understand how things work and then my desire to build things are traits that are applicable in both fields,” he says.
“Perhaps it is my abstract career path that differentiates me from others, as it gives me a different perspective on what a financial organisation should be. Ultimately, I am constantly looking for ways to give Finsure an edge with my engineering, operations and sales background all contributing to this point of view.”
Finsure is one of Australasia’s leading and fastest-growing aggregators; however, that can bring challenges.
Bednar says, “As we continue to diversify our service offering, increase our staff numbers and explore new territories, ensuring that we remain true to our values and deliver the highest quality of support is paramount.
“To do that, we host regular company town halls and proudly acknowledge those who emulate the values and characteristics we consider to be reflective of Finsure.”
That growth has also seen the company branch out from Australia to become an international organisation.
“Our recent expansion into New Zealand is our first foray into the global market, but we’re constantly looking for aligned industries around the world. I’m confident that the unique service that Finsure provides our brokers would be valued in countries that have a similar mortgage broking industry,” says Bednar.
Finsure’s message is quite simple: it wants to work with brokers who put customer service above all else. This aligns with the company’s values and usually results in a healthy, collaborative relationship that benefits all parties.
Bednar says, “Anyone who knows me is aware I’m frequently travelling as I try to get in front of our broker network at professional development days and annual summits. This allows me to share the latest company updates and gain unique insights from our brokers firsthand. Often, it’s those conversations that result in the next big development at Finsure.”
Bednar strives for Finsure to become the world’s first truly global mortgage broker aggregation business.
