“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

Stephanie Thomas achieved remarkable success in just two years of starting her own mortgage broking business, being named in Queensland’s Top 10 Businesses for Loan Market in 2024.
As managing director and senior mortgage broker at Loan Market Ignite, Thomas leveraged her two decades of experience in the finance industry to create an inclusive, supportive brand centred on collaboration.
Known for her caring and empathetic approach to everyone she deals with, Thomas pours her heart and soul into every opportunity that comes her way.
“We have a great culture, which is reflected with our customer service experience to our clients and referral partners,” she says. “I support and back my team 100%, and in turn, they are keen to reflect the same ethos that I have for treating everyone with respect, courtesy and empathy.”
She has fostered a workplace environment that promotes work-life balance and flexibility and provides her team with the tools and resources to be “the best versions of themselves.”
As a parent with three children, Thomas has experienced the struggle of attaining work-life balance. She has navigated managing a business and leading a team while being a mum by learning when to hand off certain work duties.
“It’s OK to ask for help, whether from your peers, aggregator, support staff or simply family and friends,” she says. “I still don’t have this right, but having a business I’m proud of and an amazing team that supports me means I can prioritise not just my clients but my family.”
MPA recognised Thomas as an Elite Woman of 2024 for her exemplary industry leadership and tireless efforts to support women’s career aspirations and general education about finance.
She believes that, as an influential female leader in the mortgage and finance sector, it is crucial to demonstrate that success knows no gender boundaries so women can pursue their ambitions confidently.
Thomas asserts that all women in the industry are working hard to build their businesses. Her combination of resilience, innovation and commitment to continuous learning distinguishes her. She genuinely desires to make a lasting impact and contribute positively to her profession and community.
“Family is everything to me,” she says. “I would love to leave a legacy of flexibility and empathy that allows working parents the ability to have the best of both worlds. I would love to leave a mark that makes my children proud.”
