“My strongest professional quality is my ability to build trust and long-term relationships, whether with clients, colleagues, or stakeholders”
Danny Ibrahim,

Shelley McGinty has built Preston Point Capital on trust, personal service, and a team culture that puts people first. As Managing Director and Finance Broker, she has shaped the firm around the values that matter most to her. For McGinty, business ownership was always part of the plan.
Her career in mortgage broking grew from a background in property and finance. What began as a passion for building something of her own evolved into an opportunity to create a business that places clients at the centre. Every part of the firm reflects that focus - from the way advice is delivered to the way relationships are built.
“Being recognised as one of MPA’s Top 50 Elite Women is a proud reminder that following your passion and being open to growth can take you further than you ever imagined,” she explains.
Since founding Preston Point Capital, McGinty has focused on building long-term relationships, fostering a supportive internal culture, and delivering outcomes that extend beyond financial metrics.
“Without a doubt, building my boutique brokerage from the ground up and seeing it thrive has been my proudest achievement,” she says. “It’s the trust we’ve built with our clients, the culture we’ve fostered, and the relationships that have grown from it.”
For McGinty, leadership means balancing technical expertise with emotional intelligence. She sees this as central to how she and her team serve clients – particularly in complex areas such as SMSF and investment lending, where trust is critical.
“What sets me apart is the holistic approach I take, which combines expertise with genuine care for outcomes,” she adds.
Managing a growing business comes with challenges. However, McGinty believes the key is surrounding herself with the right team and setting clear priorities.
“We scale sustainably without compromising on quality because I’ve empowered my staff and built a team that shares the same client-first mindset,” she notes.
She describes her approach as one grounded in purpose, passion and a relentless commitment to growth. Known for being deeply invested in helping clients make informed, empowered decisions, McGinty is equally committed to supporting and uplifting her team.
She seizes every opportunity to make a positive impact – both in people’s lives and within the industry.
McGinty also views leadership as a platform to create a more inclusive industry. Her own experience overcoming assumptions and barriers has fuelled her drive to inspire other women in finance.
“Recognition like this isn’t just personal – it’s a chance to pave the way for other women,” she says. “If my journey can inspire even one woman to back herself and take that leap, then that’s something I’m incredibly proud of.”
She believes the industry must do more to open doors for women, particularly in leadership and ownership roles. While there’s still a gap in visibility and opportunity, she advocates for flexible pathways, visible role models and targeted mentorship as practical ways to shift the dynamic and attract more women to the sector.
“I want to be remembered as someone who led with integrity, supported the success of others and helped create a more inclusive, forward-thinking space for future brokers,” McGinty concludes.
