Cory Bannister joined La Trobe Financial in 2000. He has held both head of credit and head of distribution roles, giving him a rich understanding of the loan origination process via third-party channels and the approval and settlement of commercial and residential loans.
Bannister is well versed in the mechanics of the industry and has used this knowledge and experience to help drive his career forward.
Looking at Bannister’s timeline thus far in the industry, after spending nine years at La Trobe Financial, he was promoted to portfolio manager in 2009.
Following this, in 2011, Bannister was appointed to the role of head of credit fund at La Trobe Financial, and then in 2012, he was appointed as head of distribution at the company.
Bannister had a busy year in 2015, as he was appointed senior vice president and chief lending officer at La Trobe Financial and was named to Financial Standards’ Power50 list of the most influential social media users.
By 2017, Bannister was recognised in the MPA Hotlist, and through 2019–22, he was recognised as one of Mortgage Professional Australia’s Mortgage Global 100 leaders.
Bannister’s portfolio management experience extends to the selection and allocation of assets for multiple wholesale mortgage portfolios in excess of $1bn.
Within his time in the industry, he has been responsible for the management, review, risk profiling and audit of wholesale asset pools.
He has also managed the relationships with substantial wholesale and retail investors and been responsible for overseeing reporting in relation to these.
Bannister is the chairman of both the La Trobe Financial origination and credit committee and the large loan sub-committee, as well as a member of both the executive committee and the asset and liability committee. On top of this, he is also a member of the MFAA Lenders Forum Committee.
Bannister is an experienced mortgage professional who has successfully managed the distribution, origination and asset allocation of large mortgage portfolios, both for institutional and retail investors, on behalf of La Trobe Financial, a leading Australian credit asset manager with over $15bn in AUM.
He is recognised by Mortgage Professional Australia as one of the inaugural Mortgage Global 100 in 2019–22, which is defined as a list of leaders who are making a difference in today’s market through advancements at their own companies, taking associations to new heights, providing education to drive the industry forward or taking the lead on championing the key issues that can carry the industry into a new era.
Previous industry recognitions include MPA’s Hot List 2017 and the Financial Standards’ Power50 list of the most influential social media users in finance in 2015.
