William Lockett first started working in the finance industry back in 1986, when he was involved in the construction industry in Perth. Part of his role included completing finance applications on behalf of clients. Therefore, he has been indirectly around both finance and the mortgage industry for about 36 years.
Specialist Finance Group commenced operations in January 1991, and Lockett’s role with the firm has always been that of sole director and managing director.
Looking to the day-to-day activities of Lockett, he usually starts at 4:30 am as this allows him to commence his role ahead of time, which is particularly useful given Specialist Finance Group’s position across different national and international time zones.
His primary activities during the day are ensuring that the group is attending to all its members’ matters and making sure that this is being clearly communicated to all parties.
Lockett ensures that he speaks to a number of Specialist Finance Group’s members and business partners on a daily basis. This is because there are often daily meetings with various team members to not only discuss current issues but also strategically plan ahead.
Specialist Finance Group’s current and most important role is to not only maintain but also improve and increase the services that it provides to all of its members and business partners.
As the managing director, Lockett’s primary goal has been to engage with people that share his vision for the group and then look at ways to continuously improve the company’s aggregation services that it provides its members.
Specialist Finance Group is a private and family-owned business that is solely focused on being the best possible aggregating business partner. The company has a relationship-based approach to doing business, and trust and communication are at the forefront of all its dealings, with both its members and business partners.
The most important part of Lockett’s role is to improve what Specialist Finance Group can offer its members and business partners. Having both experience as a mortgage broker and a business owner, Lockett has played an important role in the success of growing the company.
The industry has seen many changes over the last 30 years, and having been through all of these changes has allowed Lockett to help the firm navigate the market and grow within its third-party channel.
During this time, Lockett has also served on several industry-related committees, dating back to the WA government when licencing for mortgage brokers was first introduced and most recently joining the MFAA Aggregators Forum in 2018.
Looking towards the future of the business, Lockett would like to continue driving the firm’s national footprint and making it the best possible aggregator within its third-party industry.
