Canadian Mortgages Inc. (CMI) is driven by its mission to provide disadvantaged homeowners access to liberalized lending professionally, courteously, fairly, and ethically. This passion and commitment have positioned the company as an industry leader, as evidenced by its recognition as the silver medal winner in the 2023 Brokers on Lenders survey.
As a virtual company, CMI has played a pivotal role in shaping the alternative lending and investment space. The firm has achieved this by offering innovative products and exceptional service while seeking to revolutionize access to private funds for consumers, investors, and the mortgage brokerage community alike.
CMI’s success is fueled by a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, and innovation, built upon the values of integrity, transparency, fairness, and excellence. Team diversity, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to service excellence are at the core of its innovative approach, which has given the company a competitive edge.
“Everything we do is in service to our partners and clients, and we aim to deliver an unmatched experience in our industry,” says Elizabeth Wood, EVP and chief compliance officer. “That requires every team member – at every level, department, and role – to put the client at the heart of everything they do and every decision they make.”
CMI’s leadership has guided the company’s reinvention as a lender exclusively through the mortgage broker channel. The firm has a profound understanding of what brokers need and how to help them best serve borrowers; having been founded initially as a brokerage allows for leveraging that unique expertise to structure the right solution for each borrower’s needs.
Most recently, CMI became licensed in Atlantic Canada and Quebec, significantly expanding its footprint nationwide.
The company’s leaders include:
Bryan Jaskolka – Founder and CEO
• Jaskolka founded CMI when he was 22 years old. He has grown the small business into Canada’s premier private mortgage lender, with over 120 employees and over $2 billion in lifetime mortgage funding. His vision, integrity, and unorthodox thinking have made CMI a true Canadian success story and a driving force in legitimizing private lending and transforming it into a vital financing solution for a rapidly growing segment of Canadians. In 2021, he was recognized among the Mortgage Global 100, an elite group of professionals making an impact on an international level.
• Under his leadership, CMI has achieved exponential growth and a reputation as a top employer and respected industry leader, culminating in the company’s recognition as Private Lender of the Year at the 2022 Mortgage Awards of Excellence and its placement on the Report on Business ranking of Canada’s Top Growing Companies from 2020 to 2022, with three-year revenue growth of 255%, 240%, and 490% for each year, respectively.
Mike Spero – Chief Operating and Financial Officer
• Spero is a career banker with over 25 years of experience leading through all business lifecycle phases. He was one of the founders of President’s Choice Financial, Dundee Bank of Canada, and Ally Canada. At National Bank, he helped develop Canada's first FundServ-issued savings account. He is a CPA and CMA and holds a BMath and an MBA.
Kevin Fettig – President
• Fettig is an accomplished executive with over 30 years of experience in capital markets, including over 15 years in the mortgage industry. He is CMI’s in-house economist. Through his weekly market commentary, he keeps CMI’s broker and investor partners informed with the latest news and insights on the economy, financial, and housing markets.
Elizabeth Wood – Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer
• Since joining in 2015, Wood has been instrumental in shaping the trajectory of CMI, building critical operations infrastructure, and contributing to developing industry-leading processes that have enabled CMI to scale its mortgage originations to become one of Canada’s largest private lenders.
• In recognition of her outsized contributions, Wood was recognized twice as CMP’s Woman of Influence (2019 and 2022), won the Woman of Distinction award in the 2021 Canadian Mortgage Awards, and was a 2022 finalist for the Canadian Lending Association’s DE&I Leader of the Year.
Blue McClellan – Chief Information Officer
• As the leader of CMI’s technology division, McClellan drives the IT strategy forward. He has been instrumental in establishing CMI as a tech-driven industry leader.

“The leaders of Bendelta are everyone who works here,” says Mitchell. “Everyone at Bendelta is truly a leader and that is what has enabled our sustained high performance. This is not a platitude, it is how Bendelta is designed. Every person here knows that they have a leadership opportunity and responsibility, and that they have the licence to take whatever initiative might help make ‘a better Bendelta’ become a reality.”
Perhaps their most important current strategy is creating the infrastructure (in many different forms) to enable them to scale up while making work easier, not harder. This includes investing in systems, technology, and new leadership roles to boost efficiency and productivity. They’ve always had great people doing great work, but they are now making this much more supported and sustainable.
This may sound a little dull compared to the excitement of some of their other strategies, but it means that their people will get better outcomes from their effort, which makes that effort feel much more worthwhile.
Working with Bendelta, clients can expect that:
Everyone they deal with will be talented and incredibly dedicated
They will listen to understand
They will be solution-focused, emphasising what is best for the client
They will strive to deliver excellence
They won’t have to worry about any internal frictions or competition
