As director of mortgage originations at Haventree Bank, Parveen K. Sandhu oversees a team of talented underwriters dedicated to helping the bank’s broker partners find homeownership solutions for their clients.
Coming from a family with roots in the mortgage space, Sandhu discovered her passion for finance early on. After being mentored by her father in different areas of lending, she became particularly interested in the alternative lending space, and in 2015, she started her first role as a mortgage officer with Home Trust.
Sandhu graduated from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s in Commerce degree, and has now spent over seven years in the mortgage industry, developing a firm understanding of the underwriting space.
She is driven by her passion to help others, whether it be her coworkers, clients or brokers. She has consistently been a strong advocate for making changes in the alternative lending space, and her favourite part of the job is the ability to help ordinary Canadians qualify for mortgages that they wouldn’t otherwise have been able to access.
“Many of the applications that we receive are not cookie-cutter,” Sandhu says. “We really get to know the story behind every person’s situation. This means working closely with our broker partners, and teaching them about our different products and programs so that we can work together to help our mutual clients.
“There’s huge gratification in knowing that I can help make a difference in someone’s life.”
Sandhu says that her time at Haventree Bank has been a significant step in her career. With the continuous support and encouragement of different departments, as well as her direct and senior managers, Sandhu has been able to substantially increase her knowledge and expertise. As a result, she has swiftly risen through the ranks to lead her own team, and was recently promoted to a director role.
She has also become known for her strong work ethic and her relentless determination to get as many deals as possible across the finish line. Her managers comment on her ability to make the process completely seamless even when there is considerable time pressure.
Looking towards the future, Sandhu says she is always looking for opportunities to make a difference to clients where she can.
“I am passionate not only about finance and mortgage, but also about helping others,” she says. “I know I can have an impact in making change happen, and I am looking forward to seeing where my career takes me.”
