“My strongest professional quality is my ability to build trust and long-term relationships, whether with clients, colleagues, or stakeholders”
Danny Ibrahim,
KeyRate Mortgage
Craig Brunsdon’s path into mortgages began in an unexpected place. He started his career in automotive sales and advanced to general sales manager at a young age.
While his peers were moving into real estate, he knew that side of the business was not for him. Mortgages felt like a natural fit and gave him a chance to build something of his own. “Looking back, it’s been a hundred times better than I could have ever asked for,” he says.
Brunsdon is now a mortgage agent level 2 with The Mortgage Coach Greater Simcoe, recognized on CMP’s 2025 Rising Stars list. His work is defined by consistent growth and client service, along with a willingness to push himself to higher levels year after year. For him, progress is about the discipline to deliver more for his clients.
Managing expectations in a changing market has been his biggest challenge. Interest rate changes, tighter rules, and unpredictable timelines can complicate the process for clients. His solution has been to be open and honest from the start, even when the message is hard to deliver. That approach has built lasting trust. Clients may not always hear what they want, but they know where they stand.
Honesty is the quality Brunsdon points to most often. He admits mistakes quickly and takes ownership of fixing them. That mindset reflects his belief that clients must never be left feeling abandoned or misled. It also shapes how he sets standards for himself, keeping expectations clear and measurable.
The recognition as a Rising Star is, in his view, the outcome of hard work and an inner drive that keeps him pushing forward. “The fear of failing pushes me to keep doing more, and that drive helps me not only meet but over-deliver on both my clients’ expectations and my own,” he explains. That drive keeps him focused when the workload grows and the pressure rises.
Brunsdon draws on his background in sales to communicate effectively with clients, lenders, and partners. He also leans heavily on problem-solving. Deals that others might consider messy are the ones he often thrives on, preferring to pick up the phone, work through the details, and find solutions. If he does not have the answer, he makes sure to track it down. Clients have responded to that persistence with loyalty and referrals, which have been key to his growth.
Mentorship has also played a part in his success. Having someone in his corner with industry experience gave him insight and practical knowledge he could not have gained alone. He considers that guidance to be one of the most valuable assets in his career.
His early years also showed him how to turn inexperience into an advantage. He leaned into being new, asking lenders every question he needed, even ones that felt basic at the time. That openness accelerated his learning curve and gave him tools to serve clients more effectively.
“I’d like to continue building my team, take on more of a leadership role, and shift my focus from just being seen as a Rising Star to being recognized as a top overall performer in the industry,” he says.
