A career involving numbers seemed to be always in the cards for Jordan Ellis.
“I knew I wanted to work with numbers; my mother has been in the banking industry for 39 years. I have a passion for real estate and being a mortgage broker was a natural fit,” the mortgage broker at TMG Atlantic says.
That fit showed up fast in the results. Ellis proudly shares, “Right out of the gate, I have been a high producer, having done 125 mortgages in my first eight months in the industry. I work hard for my clients and provide excellent advice. My phone hasn’t stopped ringing.”
Ellis translated that fast start into staying power, proving he was not just an early starter but a solid broker built to last. He finished 16th in Canada at CIBC for units produced in 2023, and is among a small number of mortgage brokers to achieve Summit 5 status in his first full year in the role. He received annual achiever recognition every full year he spent at CIBC, finished number one in Atlantic Canada in two of those three years, and helped grow the bank’s market share from third among the major banks to second, behind RBC.
Ellis doesn’t credit his rise to hard work alone. “I had a large network prior to joining the mortgage industry that was a big help,” he says. That advantage was reinforced by mentorship at CIBC, where area sales manager Geoff Woodford proved instrumental to his early success. At TMG Atlantic, he credits executive vice president Steve Whitehead, vice president Andrew Matheson, and current vice president Lindsay MacInnis with the same.
Asked what has allowed him to build a reputation so early in his career, he points to two things: “Honesty and intelligence. I am honest and upfront with the clients. My ability to critically think and know policies in and out has allowed me to know what works to get the mortgage done for the client.”
Ellis is candid about the challenges of the job, particularly how unforgiving the market can be. “The biggest challenge I deal with would be trying to get clients affordable mortgage payments that fit their budget. The real estate market has been a tough barrier for a lot of Canadians to afford home ownership,” he says. He credits his lender-policy knowledge for his ability to navigate that barrier: “With my knowledge of different lenders policies, I know where to place all different client scenarios with the right lender that fits their situation.”
Outside of work, Ellis is a proud girl dad to daughters Oaklyn and Kenley. Being named one of CMP’s Rising Stars for 2026 hasn’t shifted how he sees his career. “It hasn’t changed. I have received awards each and every year of my career. I use it as a reflection of my hard work and dedication. I continue to thrive to be better each and every year, and this award is a feather in the hat along the career,” he says.
