"By actively engaging in mentorship and fostering a supportive network of colleagues, I will continue to advocate for and support aspiring women in the professional realm"
Zebunisso Alimova, Mike Pero Mortgages
During her post-graduate studies, Zebunisso Alimova’s career took an unexpected but rewarding turn. With a background in storytelling and photography, she serendipitously found herself working part-time at a bank.
This financial industry experience eventually led her to Mike Pero Mortgages, setting her on the journey to running her own successful business.
Hailing from post-war Tajikistan, Alimova defied the odds on several fronts. She was the youngest graduate at her university and, after transitioning to ASB Bank, rose to become the North Island’s top lender.

“The culmination of these experiences forms a tapestry of success that I cherish deeply in my career journey,” she says.
NZ Adviser recognised Alimova’s contributions and professional achievements as a mortgage adviser for the third year by naming her an Elite Woman of 2024.
Known for her genuine empathy and steadfast commitment to caring for people on a personal level, Alimova’s passion for building strong relationships has been integral to her success. Rather than assessing a business deal solely on size or complexity, she prioritises the person behind the numbers.
She says, “I take the time to understand their unique circumstances, discerning how I can be instrumental in guiding them towards their goals.”
Beyond her professional achievements, which are driven by an enduring affinity for her work, colleagues and clients, Alimova strives to empower women to embrace their passions and strengths through mentoring.
She believes being recognised as an Elite Woman comes with a profound sense of responsibility and dedication to inspiring other women aspiring to excel in their respective fields. An acute awareness of the impact representation can have on the aspirations of others inspires her to openly share her journey, triumphs and challenges.
Balancing professional responsibilities with familial duties is a universal challenge that she overcomes by intentionally pushing against societal expectations and norms. Her ability to raise four children while spearheading a business that has doubled in size over the past five-plus years is a testament to her resilience and commitment to success.
