“My strongest professional quality is my ability to build trust and long-term relationships, whether with clients, colleagues, or stakeholders”
Danny Ibrahim,
KeyRate Mortgage
This year has been both rewarding and challenging, with the rising cost of living putting pressure on households across the country. More than ever, Alexander McAlpine’s focus has been on helping clients not just secure finance, but truly understand it, guiding them through every step of the process with clarity, empathy and strategy.
Great customer service, to him, means being available when clients need support the most, whether that’s answering a call after hours, explaining how repayments will impact their weekly budget, or finding ways to structure their lending to save thousands in interest over the life of their loan. It’s about more than transactions; it’s about building trust and delivering tailored advice that helps people achieve long-term security and their property goals.
Many of McAlpine’s clients are first-home buyers or families trying to navigate rate rises, inflation and uncertainty. He has taken pride in helping them feel confident, informed and financially better off, from restructuring existing loans for flexibility and savings, to ensuring they’re set up to reduce debt faster without sacrificing lifestyle.
This award means a lot to him because it recognises the human side of his profession. Mortgages aren’t just numbers – they’re tied to people’s homes, families, futures.
McAlpine is grateful to every client who has trusted him on that journey, and he looks forward to continuing to support Kiwis with honest, personal and impactful mortgage advice.

A significant part of his focus today is staying ahead of regulatory change while maintaining a seamless client experience. He tracks updates from regulators and lenders closely and works with his teams to adjust systems as needed.
“My approach to my role and my career has always been rooted in passion, focus, and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” he says. “I’ve never been driven solely by profit or business metrics. I believe in hiring great talent, trusting them, and pushing boundaries because innovation doesn’t come from playing it safe.”
His experience isn’t limited to Canada. Ibrahim has worked in the US and UAE, which shaped his global perspective and comfort with adapting to different markets. He thrives on risk, viewing setbacks as stepping stones to progress.
“I’ve always believed that if you love what you do, you’ll never settle, and that attitude has guided every decision I’ve made,” he adds.
That outlook continues to guide his work and reflects his broader goal of helping move the industry forward. Through his brokerage, lending company, and legal services, Ibrahim is focused on creating long-term value for his clients, his teams, and others working in the field.
