Profile
Fewer than five years into his mortgage advising career, Khushpreet Sidhu has personally settled more than $400 million in home loans. The Christchurch mortgage adviser has built that figure largely on referrals, guiding first-home buyers, investors and refinancers across New Zealand through a complex lending market.
Now director and principal adviser at Genesis Mortgages, Sidhu treats the number as rewarding but secondary to the trust built behind it. Widely regarded by many of his clients as one of the best mortgage advisers in Christchurch, he has earned a reputation for combining technical expertise with a strong focus on long-term client outcomes.
Sidhu started out as an insurance adviser in late 2019 before moving into home lending in 2020, drawn by the chance to help people buy homes and build long-term wealth. In October 2024, he founded Genesis Mortgages with a vision of building a business that puts relationships ahead of transactions. The firm settled almost $100 million in its first 12 months, and total lending is now approaching half a billion dollars by his own account.
Sidhu’s insurance background came full circle when Genesis Mortgages was established. He folded his early expertise back into the business through Genesis Protect, whose advisers now work alongside the mortgage team so clients can protect their homes, incomes and families as well as finance them. “Our goal is to be a complete financial partner, supporting clients through every stage of their journey,” he says.
Behind the volume sits a deliberate approach to knowledge. Genesis Mortgages reviews every application it handles, approved or not, analysing why a structure worked and where it met resistance. Having processed close to 1,000 applications spanning first-home buyers, investors, self-employed borrowers and construction lending, Sidhu credits that continual review with his ability to structure solutions many borrowers assume are out of reach.

Sidhu sees much of his role as making a complex market easier to navigate. “Many people naturally focus on getting a ‘yes’ from the bank, but our role is much broader than that,” he says.
Beyond securing an approval, he walks clients through why a strategy is recommended and how interest rates, repayments and loan structures affect them, so they can decide with confidence. Sidhu and his team carry that same commitment to client education through social media, videos, seminars and client events, on the principle that “an informed client is an empowered client”. For those seeking a first home buyer mortgage in NZ, that guidance and education can be particularly valuable during what is often one of life’s biggest financial decisions.
He points to genuine care for clients’ long-term success as his strongest professional quality. “Anyone can arrange a mortgage, but great advisers take the time to understand where clients want to be in five, 10 or 20 years,” Sidhu says. If he does not believe a decision is in a client’s best interests, he says so – a stance he values above completing another transaction.
Sidhu and his team measure success less by settlement figures than by whether clients feel informed, confident and supported long after their loan settles. This philosophy has carried Genesis Mortgages through a transformational year.
For Sidhu, client experience sits at the heart of everything they do. “We never lose sight of why our clients choose us. They want honest advice, responsive communication and someone who genuinely cares about their financial future," he says.
