Profile
Linda Eagleton never set out to build a top-ranked mortgage business. There was no master plan, no fixed milestone she was working towards. “It has just been something that has gradually evolved and has slowly built from client number one to now,” she says. The mortgage adviser and director of Eagle Home Loans, trading as Loan Market Nexus, has earned a place among NZ Adviser’s Top Brokers for 2026 on the strength of something harder to manufacture than a growth target: the trust of the clients she serves.
For Eagleton, this recognition carries a particular weight because of how it was earned. The ranking draws on feedback given directly by clients, and that is what makes it meaningful to her. “The trust my clients place in me and the positive impact we have on their homeownership journey is what drives me every day, so being recognised in this way is incredibly rewarding,” she says.
Her approach is built on a simple principle. Eagleton describes her strongest professional quality as “being straight up and honest with my clients, communicating to them in a way they can understand,” paired with a genuine interest in both their immediate goals and the longer journey ahead. For Eagleton, the work is its own reward. She takes as much satisfaction in seeing a client repay a mortgage after years of effort as she does in helping someone buy a first or tenth home, viewing each goal as a personal achievement for the client.

Client focus drives the business. The majority of her work comes from referrals, and she puts as much effort into a fixed-rate review or annual check-in as she does into a new loan application. Her mantra is that every interaction is a chance to “wow” a client again so that when home loans come up at a barbeque or by the office photocopier, her name is the one mentioned. Retention follows the same logic, supported by Loan Market’s stay-in-touch program of newsletters, review touch points and birthday messages, supplemented by her own check-ins as the market dictates.
Consistency matters as much as connection. The team works to a set of minimum service standards and is finalising a client promise document that formalises commitments on both sides of the relationship. A standout addition has been her husband, Craig, who supports clients through the property search itself, helping them weigh options and navigate listings, a complimentary service that fills a long-standing gap in the client journey.
Looking ahead, Eagleton has no specific size targets. Her passion lies in helping other advisers grow, particularly those who feel the isolation of operating alone. Her team now spans four advisers across the country, connected through a daily virtual meeting room, with two support staff working towards becoming advisers themselves. “That sense of connection, support and shared success is exactly what I want to create for other advisers,” she says.
