“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

ELITE WOMEN 2024 JUDGE
communication
confidence
A key focus that has enabled Finnen’s business to thrive has been her decision to employ women. This was driven by her personal experience of entering an industry with a lack of diversity.
“I sought out to hire women to teach them about the mortgage world as it was very much a majority of men back at that time.”
Another priority has been to engender a collegial spirit and team ethic. This is underlined by Finnen recognizing that her success in part rests on those around her.
She explains, “Hiring my best friend, sorority sister, and roommate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to be my processor was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. She is my right hand, and without her, I would not be nearly as successful as I am.”
As well as being a top performer in the mortgage industry, Finnen has a family and has balanced both sets of responsibilities. And she is keen to share her story and provide confidence to others who are entering the sector.
“I want other women to see that you can have it all. It just takes constant tweaking, delegating, and a drive to succeed,” she says.
Getting to where she is now is the result of all that, as Finnen strategically created a structure that guided her rise.
“You have to build a team and be picky about who you choose to surround you,” she explains. “But you have to let go quickly if it’s not working out and stand out, brand yourself, and stick with the brand.”
Finnen revels in arranging mortgages and enabling individuals to become homeowners. Her infectious attitude energizes both her team and clients.
“I love my job. My approach is to find joy each day even in the challenges.”
